In an attempt to combat desertification, scientists develop a drug that accelerates plant growth. However, the experiment goes catastrophically wrong, causing plants to develop a "stress-induced" intelligence and aggressive nature. These mutated plants quickly cover the globe, collapsing human civilization. To save the world, a global task force plans to deliver a "neutralizing agent" to the heart of the plant infestation. The story follows a former engineer and his young daughter who join a group of soldiers on a perilous mission to inject the agent into the plant's root system before a terminal "saturation" event destroys what remains of humanity.
